Matthew 7:13-14

Enter in through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many there are who go in through it. Because narrow is the gate and straight is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. ~ Matthew 7:13-14

Prayer For New Orleans

Dear Lord Jesus,
We know that your love and mercy encampeth about those who love you and fear you. As we have watched the news we have seen and heard a multitude call upon your name and trust their lives and property to your sovereignty. We pray Lord Jesus for them and their city and lift up the will of God for this place. Thank you God for the love that you have for your people and thank you that your will for us is to give us hope and a future. We lift up the poor of this city and Lord help us to all be poor in spirit but rich in mercy and abounding in love for one another, just as you Jesus showed us. Help us to prefer one another and be gentle in spirit, loving the truth more than even our own lives. Help us to lay ourselves down, dying to our own flesh so that we may live by your spirit. Dear Lord, help us to be your gift to others who desperately need you. In this same spirit we lift up all the poor and oppressed of the world. Help us Lord to find ways to reach out to them, comfort and help them and to visit them in their distress. We ask Lord Jesus to make us into vessels that honor you not just with lips but with our lives of love. Amen.
